We are pleased to be able to offer bursaries for eight Choral Scholars (2 soprano, 2 alto, 2 tenor and 2 bass) to be based at the Priory Church of the Holy Trinity, Micklegate, York. The bursary will be from January 2020 to June 2021 and then subject to review and possible further development.
Each Choral Scholar bursary is valued at £750 per academic year (the equivalent of 30 services). For the remainder of the 2019/20 academic term, the bursary is £500 (the equivalent of 20 services).
Potential singers should be at least 18 years of age and in full time or part time education. The choir will be under the direction of Mark Wharfedale, and will sing for ten Sunday services each academic term. The Sunday Eucharist is at 11.00am and rehearsals will begin at 9.30am. Any extra services agreed in advance will be remunerated accordingly unless other arrangements are made.
There may be a possibility to mount special concerts. It is also envisaged that there may also be additional opportunities to sing at Festivals and Holy Days and with a new junior choir at Evensong.
The ability to be able to sight-read would be advantageous, though all music will be available in advance.
Auditions will be held where you will be required to sing one short song/aria and to sight read a short excerpt.
This role is subject to a satisfactory disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (known as a DBS check).
